“ALONG A LINE is living room pop that dances on the verges of contemporary classical and unruly folk pop without losing its own face.”
ALONG A LINE is a formation of the young singer-songwriter Aline Goffin, jazz flute player/arranger Stefan Bracaval and sound designer Bart Celis. A jam session in 2011 brought the 3 musicians together in seemingly simple pop songs that carry out their love for classical, contemporary and jazz music.
Lead vocalist Aline Goffin (°1989) made her stage debut as a 10-year old singer next to the Czech violinist / singer Iva Bittova. She already played cello from the age of 4. Muziektheater Transparant and Zonzo Compagnie incorporated her in their music theatre productions, where composer in residence Jan Van Outryve wrote music for her voice. In the pop world she sang on recordings from the singer Wigbert and did live backing vocals for An Pierlé. Besides this she also dubs leading roles in animation movies such as Frozen and Alice in Wonderland.
In ALONG A LINE her voice is backed up by an ensemble of violin, viola, cello, flute, (bass)clarinet, flugelhorn/trumpet and drums. Keys and guitars are conspicuously absent.
Stefan Bracaval wrote challenging and surprising arrangements for this ensemble that give away his background in jazz, classical and pop. Bracaval was classically trained at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and later extended his knowledge with jazz classes. He worked besides others with Pierre Anckaert, Raymond van het Groenewoud, Brussels Jazz Orchestra and Hooverphonic, In 2015 he released a cd with Pierre Anckaert: Woodworks. Nowadays he plays regularly with Multitude, Anne Niepold and Book of Air. He also teaches jazzflute and didactics at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.
The sound design of Bart Celis completes the tone color. His passion for sound was created during his studies to become a classical guitar player. Since then he has done recordings and live mixing for Sergey Sobolev (Elisabeth competition piano), The Filharmonic and the Flemish Opera, to Graindelavoix, the young Jazz scene of Brussels (e.g. David Thomaere, Antoine Pierre, Steven Delanoy,...) and music theatre- and dance productions from Rosas, Muziektheater Transparant and ZOO/Thomas Hauert.
In 2014 ALONG A LINE recorded a first demo and video. Not long after that they were voted vi.be of the month by Indiestyle magazine for their “craftsmanship” and the “sometimes theatrical, then intimate” voice of Aline Goffin, to whom is referred to as “half human, half angel”. In the summer of 2015 this was followed by the recordings of their debut album at Dada Studios in Brussels (BE), where also artists such as Arno, Deus, Zita Swoon and Axelle Red have recorded. The result of these recordings, the album Shh. will be released on October 21st 2016. The album has been largely financed through a crowdfunding campaign. Already after 21 days ALONG A LINE had reached 100% of the funding goal. After 40 days the campaign was closed at 135% of the funding goal, donated by 153 people.
